Our Philosophy
Learning is a verb different than teaching or
educating- learning is something you do, not
something done to you. A child owns the word
“learn”. Children are not only capable of learning
but want to learn. The home is an ideal setting
for children to explore their unique talents,
develop their strengths, and realize their
potential. When a child becomes aware of their
capabilities, a beautiful thing happens; independence,
self-direction, aspirations, and free creative expression
ensue. A child that is alive and full of vitality experiences
true self-esteem.
Let’s step back and allow children freedom through time, space and love to explore their world at their pace. Allow them to discover the hidden treasures within themselves and without. Step back and be amazed at the wonder, the excitement, the thrill , and zeal for life. Trust in our children’s desire to learn and help them to believe in themselves.
“Freedom is necessary for the child because only under freedom can he grow his natural way – the good way.” A.S. Neill

Learning suggestions for young children:
Elementary age
:: Become aware of your child’s learning style. Children’s Corner
:: Read aloud as much as you can – books above child’s reading level. Good literature improves vocabulary, grammar and writing. Early Years Read-Alouds
:: Games, puzzles, drawing, any creative activities are very important for the imagination and creativity. Draw-Write-Now
:: Keep structured learning minimal. Reading, writing and math can be accomplished in 1 to 2 hours.
:: If your child is losing focus try cross brain exercises: Reverse jumping jacks (arms up when legs are together). Toe touches with opposite hand. Brain Exercises
:: If you or your child become stressed, take the day off or find a new way to present the material. Avoiding Homeschool Burnout
Middle age
:: Use child’s interests and strengths for subject material.
:: Begin more challenging high school subjects that your child excels in the most.
:: Spend time on subjects your child enjoys. If math is difficult, work on it, but don’t neglect their love for art, music, writing etc….
:: Allow subjects to take more than a year or less than a year. Taking time to understand algebra will go a long way when it comes time for college.

Dealing with Truant/Attendance Officers
If you are visited by a truant or attendance officer, show them your copy of the Church School Enrollment Form (CSEF).
You are free to give them my name and phone number and ask them to call me with any questions, if needed. Remember, you are not required to show a truant officer anything other than the CSEF. Make sure you get their name and a badge number and a card. There have been reports of false identities.
If the superintendent’s office calls, let them know when you enrolled with Rosewood Academy and that you have filed the appropriate form with the BOE, your CSEF. If they are unable to access that form, you can fax or mail them a copy. Please keep your CSEF in a safe place. If any other problems arise, ask them to contact me.
The local schools, including all teachers, counselors and principals only receive the Request for School Records (RSR) in order to send the students records to the new school – there are no other forms or records you are required to give them. Once enrolled in Rosewood Academy you are no longer obliged to public school policy.
If there is any one secret of success, it lies in the ability to get
the other person’s point of view and see things from that
person’s angle as well as from your own.”
-Henry Ford
